Custom Orthotics

What are custom orthotics?

A custom orthotic is a device made specifically for your feet that is designed to restore natural foot function. Many 'biomechanical' complaints such as heel pain, knee pain and lower back pain are caused by poor foot function. Custom orthotics or shoe insoles
re-align the foot and ankle bones to their neutral position, thereby restoring natural foot function. In turn this helps alleviate problems in other parts of the body.

Our orthotics are custom manufactured by Orthotic Energy.  Please visit www.orthoticenergy.comfor more information.

We are pleased to offer a line of orthotic footwear as well.  Please visit http://www.orthoticenergy.com/productcatalogue.htm to browse the product line.

What to Expect

Your first visit at Holly Meadows Chiropractic Clinic for custom orthotics will be with one of our chiropractors and you will begin by filling out chiropractic new patient intake forms.

You will then be asked a series of questions to see if you may benefit from orthotics.  You will then have a biomechanical assessment including: gait analysis, static and dynamic assessment of the arches of your feet, and assessment of lower limb biomechanical function.

An initial consultation to see if orthotics are right for you is free of charge.  Please give our office a call at 728-9999 to set up an appointment or visit our book appointment page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who wears custom orthotics?
Orthotics are worn by everyday people with foot pain or discomfort due to biomechanical imbalances. Abnormal foot function such as that caused by over-pronation (the flattening of the arches of the feet) can lead to problems such as heel pain, heel spurs, plantar fasciitis, metatarsalgia, knee pain, low back pain and more.  Additionally, almost all athletes wear them, from recreational to professional.

Why do I need orthotics?
Imbalances of the bones of the feet can result in abnormal foot motion.  This can cause abnormal stress to the knees, hips and back resulting in pain.

■People who stand or walk all day will benefit from orthotics
■If you suffer from pain during any form of sporting exercise then orthotics can reduce the pain associated with your condition.
■For overweight individuals, orthotics will help counteract the extra stress being placed on the feet.

What conditions do they help alleviate?
Orthotics are commonly prescribed to help correct problems of the feet and lower limb such as overpronation, or flat feet. They also help to minimize problems such as heel pain, toe pain, arch pain, ankle sprains, metatarsalgia, top of the foot pain, shin splints, knee pain, back pain and more.

How are our orthotics made?
Our process starts with the casting of your feet in what is referred to as the "neutral position." After the cast is made, a determination is made to which materials are best suited for your situation, taking into account your activity level and the intended purpose of the shoes you plan to put them it.  Our casts are then sent to an orthotics manufacturing lab in Toronto where the orthotics are custom formed from raw materials.  Please visit www.orthoticenergy.comfor more information.

Are orthotics covered by insurance?
Custom orthotics are covered by most extended health care plans.  Each insurance plan has different requirements.  Please check with your insurance provider for details.
